Data Correction Reporting
Local surtaxes change constantly — cities and counties adopt, amend, and repeal them throughout the year, often between our monthly data runs. We operate a dedicated correction channel so that the people closest to a jurisdiction can flag discrepancies directly.
Municipal treasurers and tax administrators: if the rate shown for your jurisdiction is wrong or outdated, email us with the jurisdiction name, the statutory state rate, the local rate as adopted, the adoption or effective date, and a link to the ordinance, resolution, or official rate notice. Verified municipal reports are prioritized in our next pipeline run.
Merchants and remote sellers: if a rate mismatch shows up at checkout or in a marketplace report, send the ship-to ZIP code, the combined rate you collected, and the source you compared against (state department of revenue lookup, marketplace calculator, or point-of-sale system). These reports help us catch boundary and district-level issues that statewide averages can miss.
Every accepted correction is reviewed against official sources before it is published, then written to our open dataset at/rates.json during the next verified release. See our methodology page for how the consensus pipeline validates incoming changes.
